About BoatLaws

BoatLaws is a free reference that collects each U.S. state boating rule in one place. We built it because the answers are scattered across 50 different agency websites, and a weekend boater should not need a law degree to check the minimum age or the life jacket rule.

Every summary is compiled from public boating statutes and the relevant state natural resources or wildlife agency. Nothing is computed and nothing is uploaded: the pages are static, so they load fast and work offline.

Our editorial standard is plain language and clear sourcing. Where a rule is close to a cutoff, we point you to the official state page rather than guess. Use BoatLaws to find the right question, then confirm the current answer with the state.
